Cucu Diamantes Contribution In Art
Her diverse heritage is often exhibited in her music, earning her recognition as the pioneer of Afro-Latin urban America pop sound. Cucu Diamantes was born in Havana, Cuba but she prides herself with her diverse Spanish, Chinese, French and African birthright. Many know her as the lead vocalist and co-founder of Yerba Buena band whose first song earned them a Grammys nomination, but her music career began long before the band, singing for a salsa band in Italy where she studied music.
After the band, Cucu’s solo career took flight in 2009 with CuCuLand album a unique display of the singer’s roots being classy, tragic and theatric in the same breath. She sings about love from the eyes of a woman, social sense and independence on a personal level. Her personality is the focal point of these songs and she claims that most inspiration comes from her aunt who helped mold her personality. It is indeed a true expression of a young female Cuban singer’s vulnerability, pride and success.
Diamantes career soared so high that her song was featured as a soundtrack for Heroes, a hit series and in 2008 she prominently featured in 'Podemos con Obama’, a video supporting his quest for presidency. Cucu Diamantes is not afraid to collaborate with other artistes to increase her musical understanding. She notably worked with Beto Cavas, Fat Boy Slim, Yotuel Romero and Paulina Rubio to name but a few. She gained so much popularity after CuCuLand that in 2012 came her feature film Amor Cronico. It was produced by Sarah Green and Andres Levin to show the songstress go back to her Cuban homeland with a comedic perspective.
Her work took an activists’ turn later when she was part of the price of Silence’ video for amnesty international’s celebration of the worldwide declaration of Human Rights. She is a strong political and women rights activist judging from her work with Amnesty International as spokes person against violence on women and political sanity. Cucu plays a philanthropic role trying to reach out through her music and monetary contribution to different causes for good. Cucu is a phenomenal performer whose standout performance in New York went a long way to reach out to thousands of fans. In Cuba she performed to millions of enthusiastic fans, singing in support of peace.
The songwriter and actor is also an ambassador for Music Has No Enemies, an organization meant to end social injustices through music and film. The world truly waits in bated breath for Cucu’s next lyrical or theatrical endeavors as it is certain that she is keen on doing the best she can do whenever it is possible.
Through her success-past and modern-Cucu has reached out to millions and admirers not only for her music accomplishments but also for great business ethic that has been instrumental to changing lives. While only a few had the spotlight on Cucu, the co-founder of Yerba, she managed to pull it to herself with her first album. Listening and trying to sing along to her sweet, tender warm yet energetic lyrics I can’t help but gash at Cucu Diamantes display of character.
